Loneliness is more common than you might think

If you've been feeling disconnected, isolated, or like you're missing meaningful relationships, you're experiencing something millions of Europeans share.

Recent EU-wide research paints a clear picture: loneliness isn't rare, and it's not a personal failing. It's a widespread human experience that affects people of all ages and backgrounds across Europe.

The World Health Organization has recognized loneliness as a global public health concern. Research shows that young people often experience higher rates of loneliness than older generations. This finding holds true across cultures and countries. Major life transitions such as finishing studies, changing jobs, or moving to a new city can significantly disrupt our social networks.

But here's what the research also tells us: loneliness responds to connection. People who feel lonely report a strong desire to engage in social activities and build relationships. The challenge isn't wanting connection, it's finding safe, consistent opportunities to build it.

If you recognize yourself in these numbers, please know: you are not alone. Loneliness is a signal that we need more connection, not a reflection of our worth. You're part of a much larger community of people seeking the same thing, and that's precisely why Vaenligt exists.

Vaenligt for children is fully protected

Young people deserve safe spaces to connect with peers their own age. We've built comprehensive protections into every aspect of the platform.

Children on Vaenligt exist in a completely separate, protected environment. Adults cannot see, contact, or interact with children in any way. This isn't a setting that can be changed, it's integrated into the platform.

Complete separation from adults

Adults cannot view profiles, send messages, join groups, or have any contact with users under 18. The systems are entirely separate.

Age-appropriate matching

Children can only connect with others within one year of their own age. A 14-year-old can connect with 13 to 15-year-olds, keeping peer groups developmentally appropriate.

Verified age at registration

ID verification is required during signup. We take active measures to prevent adults from misrepresenting their age to access child spaces.

Moderated environment

All child-accessible spaces are actively moderated with additional safeguards, reporting tools, and content guidelines designed for younger users.

Connection should feel natural

We're not here to gamify relationships or create artificial engagement. Vaenligt is a calm space where people meet regularly, build familiarity, and let genuine connections develop at their own pace.
